Ollie Halsall

Ollie Halsall

Ollie Halsall may not have been the world's best guitarist, but he was certainly among the top two. From the 1960s through the 1990s, Ollie remained the essence of the low-key, unassuming sideman, whose unerring musical instincts would find their chief outlet in nightclubs, pubs and small theaters-a setup that, to all appearances, suited him well. As founding member of Timebox, Patto & Boxer, Halsall developed quite a legendary following with his virtuoso guitar playing. He also played with numerous artists including John Cale, Neil Innes as well as being an on and off sideman for Kevin Ayers for well over a decade until Halsall's untimely death in 1992. One of his most notable, albeit uncredited roles was as "Leppo" - the 5th Rutle, to which he contributed Dirk's vocal and bass lines.

His solo demos from 1979 were remastered and reissued by Think Like A Key Music in 2021 under the title Lovers Leaping on CD and for the first time, vinyl.
