The Kirkbys

The Kirkbys

The Kirkbys emerged from Liverpool's vibrant music scene in the mid-1960s, evolving from earlier incarnations as The Tuxedos and The Panthers. Led by the criminally underappreciated songwriting genius Jimmy Campbell alongside John "JD" Lloyd, Joe Marooth, Kenny "Goody" Goodlass, and Alby Power, the band transcended the typical Merseybeat sound with their distinctive harmonies and increasingly adventurous compositions. From their Everly Brothers-influenced early singles released exclusively in Finland to their psychedelic masterpiece "Michael Angelo" (as 23rd Turnoff, The Kirkbys charted a fascinating musical evolution that paralleled British pop's transformation during its most creatively fertile period. Though commercial success eluded them, their musical legacy has been preserved through various compilations and archival discoveries, including precious 1966 demos rescued from a literal rubbish skip, cementing their rightful place among British music's most intriguing sonic explorers. Now, Think Like A Key Music has compiled all their recordings in the definitive anthology "It's A Crime," out summer 2025.
