Two of Liverpool's finest — one an unsung genius, the other a Merseybeat hitmaker — made a power-pop masterpiece before the term even existed.

In 1971, Jimmy Campbell (the maverick behind The 23rd Turnoff) and Billy Kinsley (The Merseys, Liverpool Express) joined forces as Rockin' Horse and cut Yes It Is — an album drenched in Beatles-echo harmonies and raw Scouse energy. It was power-pop before anyone had a name for it: hook after hook, delivered with a grit that kept it from ever sounding polished to a fault. Potent enough that Popdiggers' Garwood Pickjon ranks it in his all-time Top 20. Yet the album vanished for decades, known only to crate-diggers and Liverpool obsessives.

Some records just refuse to stay lost.
